My Services

I work with individuals, couples, and families in my practice.

Individual Therapy

Clients in my practice access therapy for a wide variety of reasons, sometimes as a helpful resource during a particularly difficult moment, or as an ongoing part of overall wellbeing. I see clients age 12 and up in my practice (though work with younger clients for family therapy) and have a particular affinity for and expertise in supporting the following:
  • Disordered eating/ food addiction/ body image challenges

  • Teens and young adults exploring identity, including gender and racial identity

  • Grief and loss

  • Trauma

  • New parenthood

  • Creativity blocks and career changes for artists, writers and other creative folks

Couples Therapy

Often, by the time a couple seeks out therapy, the members of that couple have come to feel that either their partner or themselves are the “problem”.

I help couples reacquaint themselves with what drew them together in the first place, identify what the actual problem is, and work together using their collective and individual skills and strengths to tackle the problem and co-create a new story that makes space for resilience, compassion, and mutual enjoyment.

Family Therapy

I often say that I think the word “family” should be a verb rather than a noun. By this I mean that though we often hear the word “family” associated with stability and constancy, in reality, families are in constant flux, navigating changes when members leave or are added, negotiating and making space for the growth and development of individuals while maintaining some form of cohesion.

I love the dynamism of family life, and I love helping families redefine themselves in the midst of flux, come together to meet a challenge, and find new forms of relating.

Art Therapy

What I love about doing art therapy with my clients is how often what emerges for them in the process is novel and surprising. We are so accustomed to using language to talk about our inner lives that it can sometimes become stale, or simply feel inadequate to get at our deepest need for self-expression.  Art therapy is not just for artists, it is for everyone, and for clients of all ages, couples, and families who are open to it, I have seen it open up new ways of looking at problems, accessing trauma, interrelating, regulating the nervous system, seeing ourselves, and experimenting with new ideas.

I am trained in art therapy at the master’s level and am a registered art therapist with years of experience using art processes in the context of therapy, sometimes as the primary form of treatment and sometimes in conjunction with other forms of treatment.  If you are curious, to hear more please ask me about art therapy during our consultation.

EMDR

Similar to the ways that the body is able to naturally heal following an injury, so to does the brain have natural processes for healing from trauma or the lingering effects of overwhelming life events.

EMDR (or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a highly effective form of treatment that, with the guidance of a trained therapist, uses the brain and nervous system’s natural processes for neutralizing distressing memories or somatic reactions to environmental triggers.  EMDR can be especially transformative for people who have found that traditional talk therapy has been helpful but has not been able to effectively shift the relationship to negative past experiences that continue to have an impact on daily life, relationships, or sense of selfhood/safety in the world.

I am fully trained in EMDR and have used it effectively with clients of all ages.  If you are curious to hear more about EMDR and how I incorporate it into my practice, please inquire during our consultation.
